My First Trip to the Opera

I went to the opera one night last week,
LaBoehm was the opera – I got a peek.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect,
I thought the opera may me affect.

I wore a nice dress and quickly saw,
Gowns and tuxedos from very good stores.
I read the program – it made me cry,
Mimi, at the end, she died.

The orchestra started to play so loud,
Their performance made me proud.
The opera stars began to sing,
My heart took flight – it was on the wing.

I sat enthralled – I could not move,
The maestro’s baton – he did approve.
He kept the orchestra in line,
The music played – it was so fine.

The arias made me tear, you see,
The story was so sad to me.
Mimi was ill and discontent.
Her lover left her with no consent.

Later on he found his love,
Dying and sick alone above.
He was too late- he cried and cried,
Mimi – Mimi – and then she died.

The emotions in me were very high,
I came back to earth – by and by.
I went home alone and went to bed,
The music going ’round and ’round in my head.
