Mommy’s Little Helpers

Let’s face it, in this day and age, our phones have become personal assistants and constant companions. They are no longer just sources of communication, but serve as tools of organization, information, and even a major source of relaxation. As a busy mother of two special children, I practically live on my phone. Aside from the built-in jewels like iBooks (most of the classics are free by the way), the mulit-alarm capable Clock, and, of course, the always handy Calculator, there are a few apps that I consider a must on my iPhone.

Free Bible Study Tools by Salem Communications’ features include: a daily reading plan with alarm reminders; dozens of translations including KJV, NIV, NASB, & The Message; multiple Bible dictionaries, encyclopedias, and commentaries. This app is perfect for keeping up with your Bible study on the go, as well as being a handy reference. I call this my anchor when it comes to my sanity. It allows me to catch those precious few moments of quiet time to regain my focus and sense of peace no matter where I am or what I’m dealing with it.

Pandora Radio by Pandora Media Inc. finds music for you based on your favorites and plays a non-stop stream of great music in any genre you choose. And if, on the off chance, you occasionally run into a song that just doesn’t do it for you, you can give it a “thumbs-down” and move on. It also saves your ‘station’ history so you can easily switch between favorites. Ever feel like your life needed a soundtrack? TA-DA!

All-in YOGA: 200 Poses & Yoga Classes by Arawella Corporation gives you quick and easy access to yoga classes, complete with pictures, verbal descriptions, and video demonstrations of each move. Classes are available for every skill level and with a variety of focuses: morning stretching, back health, ab workouts, breathing exercises, etc. While the full app does require a few dollars, it is well worth it (and this is probably the ONLY app I would say that about). After all, there’s no better way to wake yourself up in the morning than 15 minutes of peaceful yet energizing relaxation.

Bump by Bump Technologies LLC allows you to transfer music, photos, calendar events (alarm reminders included), or even apps to another person’s phone simply by bumping your phones together, making it a perfect tool for coordinating and sharing among families.

The Weather Channel by The Weather Channel Interactive delivers instant access to whether reports and warnings for any location across the globe. Headed out of town? You can find out the weather at your destination in a matter of seconds. Kids got a ballgame this afternoon? Check the hourly forecast and find out the chance of rain. It also keeps you up-to-date on severe weather warnings, which as a mom, I consider a must.
