Milwaukee Thanksgiving Events

Thanksgiving is an important time of year to spend with your family. Instead of celebrating just during a family meal, get together with friends and family to explore the different Thanksgiving events around Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Holiday Parade 11-19: Every year families flock to Wisconsin Avenue with their lawn chairs and blankets to catch a glimpse of the Thanksgiving and Christmas floats designed by local organizations and schools. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. on Astor Street. Though the parade is mostly Thanksgiving themed, it is one of the first events of the Christmas season. At the end of the parade Santa appears with his reindeer.

Holiday Lights Festival 11-17-1/1/12
: After eating a meal with your family on Thanksgiving, get in the car and head Downtown to view the holiday lights. Take the complimentary trolley shuttle from park to park, decorated for the holiday season. The shops of Grand Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue are also decorated to celebrate the season. If you live on the East Side or in the Third Ward, walk over to the parks to burn off those extra calories.

Thanksgiving Dinner: Turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie are just a few pieces of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. If your family isn’t getting together, you don’t have to miss out on the good food! The Pfister Hotel Ballroom is transformed into a cozy Thanksgiving buffet complete with all the fixings. The Packing House and Old Town Serbian Gourmet House also offer turkey dinners.

Holiday Folk Fair International 11/17-11/19: Annually local dance troupes and vendors meet at the State Fair Park to showcase different nationalities. Inside the expo center you can explore crafts, foods and dances from around the world. Sit in on a seminar to learn different craft projects or dances yourself. Tickets are available for a discounted rate before purchasing.
