Make a Greeting Card with a Deck of Cards

If you know someone who really loves to play cards, then they would enjoy receiving a greeting card that expresses their passion for the game. They will be especially tickled to find out that you made the card.

You’ll need a deck of cards, poster board, glue, scissors and a pencil. If you want to enhance the card, glitter, ribbons and buttons.

On the poster board, trace the outline of a greeting card that you have. Open the card up and then trace it onto the poster board with a pencil. If the card is closed, you won’t get the correct size. Cut the tracing out. Fold the cut out in half following the same fold as the original card that it was cut from. With the greeting card still open, place the tracing over it; make sure they line up together and fold the cards closed. Remove the tracing and press the crease to make a deep crease.

On the front of the card and using the deck of cards, line the cards up side by side from the top to the bottom so that they will cover the poster board. You can overlap the cards. When you have the cards the way you want them, glue them onto the poster board. Let it dry. When it’s dry, open the card and on the backside of the front or the left side of the card, repeat the above. Let it dry. When it’s dry, close the card and cover the back of the card. Let the glue dry.

When you open the card, the right side should be left blank; here you can write a message to the recipient. Since writing on poster board can be smeared or rubbed off, you can size and glue a piece of paper over the blank poster board.

On the front of the card, you can decorate it by outlining the numbers and characters (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) to further jazz it up. You may only wish to adorn a single number or a character or both a number and a character. However you want to do it is up to you. You can outline with glue and sprinkle on lots of glitter or you may choose to outline in glue and buttons or even in strips of ribbon. You can decorate inside the card with the little extras. You might even want to decorate your message in glitter, ribbons or buttons to make your message pop.
