Link, the Weapons Master: My Favorite Video Game Character

One of the most mysterious and skillful video game heroes of all time is none other than Link. From the Legend of Zelda franchise, Link has been my favorite character since I played the original Legend of Zelda game on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Link is a Hylian, an elfish being that inhabits the world of Hyrule, the main setting in most of the games. The main objective for Link is usually to rescue Princess Zelda from the game’s main antagonist Ganon, a vile and sinister being in possession of the Triforce of Power. The Triforce is a relic depicted as a set of three omnipotent golden triangles. Link possesses the Triforce Courage; Zelda has the remaining Triforce, the one of Wisdom.

The thing I love most about Link is the character’s ability to use a variety of weapons and items. Although the main weapon you use is the Master Sword, a legendary sword only those pure of heart can wield, several other weapons are also at your disposal. Such as high powered bombs that can also reveal hidden passages, a boomerang, bow and arrows, as well as a ball and chain. Besides his array of weapons there are other useful items he can use that are necessary to completing the games. Of these items there are certain staffs that possess a magical quality ranging from shooting fire to bringing statues to life. In later games there are special outfits that give Link the ability to breathe underwater.

I have yet to play Skyward Sword the newest addition in this series, and as of now my favorite game feature Link is The Twilight Princess. Released in 2006 for the Wii, this game made Link appear as an older and slightly more mature character than its predecessors. Unlike previous games in the series, Link is given a horse as a form of transport, and mounted battles are featured. Furthermore, there is my favorite feature, Link is able to transform into a wolf and fight in that form. There was something oddly fun about being able to rip souls out of Poes (evil spirits). In wolf form Link is able to run faster and access hidden areas that are not accessible as a person.

To me, Link is best video game hero, and I am highly looking forward to seeing where Link, the weapons master, new adventures will take him next.
