“Let’s Crack the Peanut!”

When my sister in law sent us a picture of her pregnancy ultrasound she noted, “it’s a peanut!” Since then we began to call the baby to be “the peanut.” My brother and her decided to host a dinner to announce the gender of the baby, or should I say, “the peanut.”
There wasn’t a theme planned out for the dinner other than a cake made with either pink or blue food coloring inside to announce girl or boy.

A couple of nights before the dinner, I texted with my sister in law regarding the excitement of her upcoming appointment. She and my brother would find out the gender of the baby. Through our conversation I texted “Friday is the big day!” She responded, “we will crack the peanut!” That was all that was needed, from that simple phrase I came up with the idea of a peanut themed dinner party.

The Materials

Peanut shaped cake
Clear goody bags
Pink and blue ribbon
Shelled peanuts
Peanut colored foam (from local craft store)
Pink and blue paper for the banner
Yellow tablecloth

A Peanut Shaped Cake

Since my sister in law likes to bake cakes and is very creative, she made a peanut shaped cake with a smiley face on it. The frosting was a combination of vanilla and peanut butter. She used food coloring for the inside of the cake. That way when my brother and sister in law cut the cake, the inside would be pink or blue. Then everyone would know if the baby is a girl or a boy.

The Decorations

I filled clear goody bags with peanuts, tied with pink and blue ribbon. I also made peanut babies out of a light brown colored foam and both pink and blue ribbon. I drew the shape of a peanut and cut it out. Glued a tiny bow and drew a smiley face. The last piece of decor was a pink and blue banner with the phrase “Let’s Crack The Peanut!”

Table scape

We used a light yellow tablecloth and on the middle of the table placed the cake. The peanut goody bags were placed on a white cake stand which was placed to the left of the cake. On another white cake stand, we placed a teddy bear which had the recording of the baby’s heartbeat (if we would have had more time, we would have looked for a peanut). We spread shelled peanuts around the table along with the peanut babies. The banner hung on a wall behind the table which gave a nice picture backdrop as my brother and sister in law cut the cake.

This was a simple but fun way to host the dinner party.

By the way, the peanut is a boy!
