Leaves of Grass Gauntlet Gloves

Materials:

· 1 Skein Worsted Weight Yarn (Sample shown is Caron Simply Soft in Country Blue) (Note: 1 – 6 oz skein will make both the gauntlet gloves and the matching hat) · Size 9 (5.5mm) straight knitting needles · Size H crochet hook (Optional) · Tapestry needle

Gauge:

16 sts X 22 rows = 4″/10 cm square in Stockinette Stitch on Size 9 (5.5mm) needles or size needed in order to obtain gauge. To save time, take the time to check your gauge.

Special Stitches:

Leaves of Grass (Multiple 11 + 3)

1: k2, * yo, skp, k9; rep from * to last st, k1

Row 2 & all alt rows: purl

Row 3: k2, * k1, yo, skp, k8; rep from * to last st, k1

Row 5; k2, * k2, yo, skp, k4, k2tog, yo, k1, rep from * to last st, k1

Row 7: k2, * k3, yo, skp, k2, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * to last st, k1

Row 9: k2, * k6, k2tog, yo, k3, rep from * to last st, k1

Row 11: k2, * k5, k2tog, yo, k4, rep from * to last st, k1

Row 12: purl

GLOVES:

With size 9 (5.5mm) needles cast on 36 (47) sts and work 10 rows of k1, p1, rib; next work Leaves of Grass pattern 3 times; then the following RS row knit, decreasing 4 sts evenly spaced across row. Next work 10 rows of k1, p1 rib; and then following WS row bind off all stitches in pattern.

Assembly:
Fold gloves in half lengthwise; sew up 9 1/2″ leaving a 2″ gap; then sew the top 1 1/2″ of rib. Next Option: 1: with size H crochet hook, work a single row of single crochet (sc) around thumb opening; attach to 1st sc with a slip st; finish off yarn. Option 2: work a blanket st around opening with a tapestry needle. Finally weave in all loose ends.
