When it comes to getting results in terms of charity work, celebrities have an advantage, and when your name is Lady Gaga you are definitely a celebrity. Throughout her career Lady Gaga has showed her appreciation to her fans by contributing to many charities. Although Lady Gaga is known mostly for her controversial outfits and heartfelt music, she has done a lot to assist foundations and people in need.
While doing the research for this article, I quickly realized that it would be near impossible to highlight all of the wonderful things that Lady Gaga has done for the world. In her own words, “I’ve been doing volunteer work since I was two. When I can, I do everything I can for those in need.” It seems as though her ability to make a difference in the lives of those in need has been given strength in her celebrity.
When the 2011 Tsunami ravaged parts of Japan, Lady Gaga was the first celebrity to step up to the plate and swing the bat. She designed a bracelet and the profit from the sales were donated to the Tsunami relief fund. This raised $1.5 billion in donations for the Tsunami victims. Other celebs quickly followed suit.
For the past year Lady Gaga has been donating VIP passes, Meet and Greet packages and signed costumes to several celebrity charities including True Colors which is in support of GLBT equality, Ellen Hermanson Breast Centre in Southampton Hospital, Lupus Foundation of America, International Rett Syndrome Foundation, The Grammy Foundation, MusiCare, The Young Story Tellers Foundation,- May 2010, Oxfam International, and The Madison Square Boys and Girls Club.
When Lady Gaga isn’t raising money for a cause or donating to a charity she regularly attends celebrity benefit concerts. In 2011 she participated in such events as the MTV Video Music Aid Japan charity event, Bill Clinton Foundation “A Decade of Difference” Concert, and Sting’s Birthday Benefit Concert.
Lady Gaga has an enormous reach with her facebook fan count well over 10 million people. Her influence on these people will ensure that many others put forth effort to support people in need. It would be easy for Lady Gaga to take her fortune and fame and horde it selfishly but instead she has chosen a more moral path or rather it has chosen her. Would she even have this fame is she didn’t have that famous Gaga heart?
