Labor Day Guide for San Francisco 2011

Labor Day is a big deal in San Francisco. A huge deal, in fact. What with the large population of active duty and veterans in the city, combined with the plethora of industries lining the waters, it is no wonder that it is a day of celebration. Given that it is a tourist city, this means that locals attempting to celebrate this holiday will be hard-pressed to enjoy the outdoors space (so many people travel to San Francisco for Labor Day). Last year, I attempted to get a bowl of clam chowder at the pier and I was a sardine among a billion other sardines, swimming(more like pushing) my way through the crowds. It was terrible. This year, I am going to do it local style, among my fellow friends and neighbors, and you should too! Here is the best local Labor Day activity to go to this year in San Francisco:

The Event: Back Door!
Venue: Fabric8
Address: 3318 22nd Street near Valencia
Open: 1PM to 7PM

What better to do with your holiday than to visit one of San Francisco’s top artist and illustrator in his grand showing “Back Door!”. Back Door!, a showcase by Andy Stattmiller highlights San Francisco’s Muni system in 27 inspiring vignettes.

Each vignette represents a bright city street, hectic days, diverse passengers, and every other memorable moment on San Francisco’s favorite transportation system. This venue is great for adults, students, and families, which is why this is the coolest place to on Labor Day!
