Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus made quite the statement at Elton John’s 2012 Oscars viewing party in their silver dresses. Both ladies looked stunning, but who wore it better?
Katy Perry
The “Part of Me” singer wore a striking Blumarine dress , complete with black and silver swirls, and a sheer silver neckline. This dress was the perfect combination of striking, but tasteful. The pattern was eye-catching without being overpowering. I liked the contrast between the clean black lines and the silver theme.
I’m not a fan of the one-shoulder dresses (ie. Emma Stone’s red number), so I was also glad that Katy stuck to a simple, figure-flattering, symmetrical cut.
Katy’s hairstyle was both glamorous and shocking. The style itself was sleek and straight, but that bright blue certainly jazzed it up!
Miley Cyrus
Miley looked stunning in her Robert Cavalli number. Considering her sometimes controversial past wardrobe choices, I was surprised to see how classy she looked. This fish-shaped dress with its long train was figure-flattering without being too provocative or revealing.
I’m not usually a fan of floral patterns, but they were nice touch here because they provided contrast without make the dress look too busy.
“The Last Song” actress also glammed it up with an old-school Hollywood look with her big blond curls and red lipstick.
The Verdict
Both ladies brought their stylistic A-game to the Oscars. My one criticism of Katy’s ensemble is that while I loved the dress pattern and the blue hair separately, I’m not sure I liked those elements together.
When you have two dominant elements, it’s hard to know where to focus. I would have either liked to see that particular dress with her natural hair color or her blue hair with a solid colored dress.
As for Miley, I usually like her in the golds or browns rather than the silvers or grays, but she and Liam Hemsworth together made it work. I liked that he matched her in his black suit and silver shirt.
If we’re voting solely on the dresses, I’d go with Katy. But if we’re voting on the whole package, my vote is for Miley.
