Is the FitBit Worth the Expense?

“Do you really want to spend $100 on a pedometer?” my loving fiancé asked me before I clicked “Buy Now.”

He knew me all too well. Of course I wanted to spend $100 on a pedometer because, No. 1, I enjoy wearing pedometers and, No. 2, it’s pink! Unfortunately, though, I had been caught in the gimmick trap before, and we’re trying to save money for our wedding – one where I’d like to shed about 50 pounds before walking down the aisle in my strapless dress.

I wanted to give it a shot. I had already checked out the FitBit website and enjoyed many of its features, such as the bright, colorful graphs and the ease of tracking food. Up until about two weeks before this, I was a member of WeightWatchers and was going NOWHERE fast. I was paying monthly and not making any progress. This article is not meant to bash WeightWatchers by any means. I lost a lot of weight on the program, but found that it was no longer working for me–but I also was not putting in the work. Any of the readers out there who love WeightWatchers (or work for WeightWatchers) and are successful on the program, keep up the great work! I personally needed a change.

Anyway, I ordered my FitBit and could not be happier with my purchase. The website is so motivational! I ordered one for my mom, and since she is my “friend” on fitbit.com, we compete to see who can get the most steps and active minutes in a day! I love checking my results periodically throughout the day, and when I haven’t been active enough, I get up and go for a walk or jog. It has completely changed my life.

In addition to activity, the FitBit tracks your sleep patterns and tells you how effective last night’s sleep really was for you. After a while, I was beginning to notice trends like if I went to bed too late, I made poor diet choices the next day, or if I ate a meal too late, I was tossing and turning for most of the night.

I highly recommend this product for anyone who is interested in changing their lifestyle and becoming healthier.
