Creating an effective workstation does not have to cost an arm and a leg. When I started college, I did not have the money or the space as a single mother to purchase a work station for class. I was doing all I could to have the laptop that got me through college, and it was a rental. I learned from my father that you do not have to spend a lot on desk and special office chair or filing stations or strange gadgets. You can actually create an effective work station for under $50 that works just as well as one that you purchase for $1,000. Here is what you need to do.
1. Find a place that you can make free from kids. This is very important. Kids can easily distract you from your work and make it hard you for you to work from home, either sometimes or all the time. You need a place to call yours to be effective and efficient. Whether it is for work or college, a few simple steps can make you more effective at work. Explain to your kids that this is your zone and that it must be free from noise and chaos.
2. Creating a work station from what you already have can be easy. If not, a simple trip to the hardware store with less than $50 will do the trick. A few milk crates and a piece of plywood can make the perfect desk for any height. Simply cover the piece of plywood with contact paper of your choice. You can buy a roll of this at Walmart for a few dollars. What makes it great is that you can easily disassemble the desk and store it against the wall.
3. A great remedy for a chair is to use a dining room chair. It is easy to remove from your work area in the blink of an eye. This saves space and prevents you from taking up much needed space in your home.
4 Small Rubbermaid containers with lids are the perfect solution to filing your paperwork. It is easy to store, transport and maneuver. Also, if the kids spill something near them, it is not the end of the world, or your GPA.
