How to Find Car Seat Inspection Stations and Check-Up Events

Knowing all the details of making sure your child’s car seat is installed correctly can be quite a task. For many parents, having someone specially trained in child passenger safety guide them through the process is very helpful.

So where can you get this type of help?

Car Seat Check-Up Events or Inspection Stations

One of the first places you can look to find check-up events or inspection stations are local hospitals, especially Children’s Hospitals. Check the website or call to inquire about details. Many times they are held at set times but require a reservation so make sure to get as much information as you can.

Contrary to popular belief, not all fire stations or police stations have CPSTs available to do car seat checks. While many firefighters or police officers are well-meaning and want to help, they may not have had the training needed to do a proper check or give the correct information. If you want to know if your local station have CPSTs available, call ahead, check their website or use one of the following resources.

Car Seat Mommy tip:
Be sure to have both your vehicle and carseat manual with you when you visit the inspection station/check-up event. Even highly experienced CPSTs will need to reference them from time to time and its much easier to help you if you have the manual.
