Halloween Decorating: How to Make Life like Monster Heads Out of Ordinary Milk Jugs

The monster mash has come your way. People will think you are hosting a monster mash get together when they see these milk jug monster heads gracing your living room or front foyer. They are almost as realistic as wax work heads. And with these heads, you can be as creative as you like, scary or friendly. You can make many types of monsters in a variety of colors and different faces.

If you want to further your Halloween decorating by making these heads into lawn ornaments, you could fill a zip lock bag with sand or gravel and place the bag inside the deli container and then set the heads along the sidewalk edging. Or for tree ornaments, just add a string to the top of the head and leave out the sand material. There are so many ways to Halloween decorate with these jug heads the possibilities are endless.

What you will need for each jug head:

1 Gallon Milk Jug Deli Container Duct Tape Tempera Paint Milk Caps Aluminum Foil Pushpins Thin Piece of Cardboard Fiber Fill (optional) Black Spray Paint (optional) Zip Lock and Sand (optional)

First you should make sure the milk jug and deli containers are thoroughly cleaned. And then you just turn over the milk jug so the top spout is facing the ground and place it in the deli container. The container will make the monster’s thick neck. Now you use duct tape and tape the two together.

Next, you pick out a paint color you like and paint the jug and container all together as one unit. After the jug head is dry, you can paint the face, bloodshot eyes, scars, shriveled lips and yucky, greasy hair. If you want crazy hair, then I like to take a couple handfuls of puffy fiber fill and place on a newspaper. And then you can spray paint the “hair” black and let dry. Then you glue the hair on the jug bead monster.

Next, you can make bolts for Frankenstein’s neck by taking a milk cap and covering it with foil. Now you stick on the bolt with a push pin.

And finally Frankie’s nose, you can cut a long triangle out of cardboard and paint it the same color as the head. Then you make two slits in the jug head were the sides of a nose should be, and stick the edges of the cardboard in the slits. And then you adjust the cardboard making sure the whole nose bows out nicely making a nose appearance.

You could even string together several monster heads using those large bulb Christmas lights placing them through the bottom of the head. And then you cut several large holes on the top of the head. The light will shoot out from the top of the head making an eerie glow. Halloween decorating is great fun and even more with these scary monster jug heads.
