Halloween Decorating: How to Make a Halloween Shrunken Head Doll

Why would you use an apple for a shrunken head for Halloween Decorating? Because they shrink into the cutest faces you ever seen. They do take 2 to 3 weeks to dry out enough to look all shrunken, so make sure you plan ahead accordingly. This little lady not only add to your Halloween decorating collection, but they can be a nice thanksgiving decoration too.

What you will need:

Colored Markers Paring Knife 1 Apple, Large Thick Wool Yarn, Grey 1 – 16 ounce Plastic Bottle 10 inch by 16 inch piece of fabric (plaid is nice) Rubber Band

First, you want to choose a large apple the larger the better, since the apple will shrink to a smaller size. Next, you peel and core the apple then use a knife to carve a face on one side. Make sure you make the eyes really deep and only a slit for a mouth. And for a nose, just cut a triangle where a nose should be, add extra small slits for wrinkles, ears and even dimples. Next, you take a 2 week break from this Halloween decorating project until the apple dries out. Make sure you place your apple in a safe location.

Now that the head is dry, you can use the markers to add a little facial color. You only need a little marking and smear the ink with a wet finger or Kleenex if you want a makeup type appearance.

Next is the wig, and you can cut 10 or more strands of yarn, double the length you wish the hair to be. Then you fold the yarn and tie another string about 1 inch from the fold so you can stuff the hair in the head.

And lastly, to make the doll’s body just cut off the base to the plastic bottle. And for the clothes, wrap the fabric around the bottle so it hanging above the top and bottom.

Now you just twist a rubber band around the bottle neck, and then fold the cloth over the band. And then you push the apple into the neck and your doll is finished. Halloween decorating can be lots of fun and these lady dolls make it even better.
