Gamer’s Guide to PS3 Playstation Plus

The Playstation Network offers PS3 owners free access to online demos, online games and achievements. If you want even more extras on the Playstation Network then you can sign up for the Playstation Plus service. The monthly service gives players access to free classic games, discounted bundles and limited access to full PS3 game trials.

Playstation Plus Plans

There are two plan options for the Playstation Plus service. The first is a three month service for $17.99. The second is a valued year-long service priced at $49.99. If you do not have a credit card, Best Buy sells the subscription cards so you just enter an access code through the PS Store.

Compared to the XBox Live 12 month subscription, the Playstation Plus is about five dollars cheaper and gives you access to more free downloads.

Monthly Content

Using your PS3 harddrive, you can download and save free games through the service. Every month, the Playstation Plus offers new games. Examples include PS classics like Crash Bandicoot, Oddworld: Abe’s Exodus and the Resident Evil series.

Typical game downloads from the PS Store cost around $5.99 for a PS1 game. This means that one game purchase would cover the monthly cost of the Playstation Plus alone.

Game Content Discounts

With DLC content expanding on all consoles, players can look for cheap add-ons and discounts through the Playstation Plus program. Typical discounts range from 20% to 35% on add-on content. Some content is exclusively available by the month while others are always available for Playstation Plus subscribers.

Full Game Trials

Before a game is released to the masses, the Playstation Plus service offers users a trial run through the program. The full game is downloaded to the console for a temporary period of time. During this time, players can play and access all the features of the game. This allows you to experience games without committing to a purchase.
