Game Review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

It all started on November 11, 2011, my boyfriend kept ranting and raving about needing to be to the local game store before 10:30 pm, which if you are a gamer or have ever dated one usually means a midnight release for a new game, as most stores close before 10:00 pm. I had a vague clue about the new game, called Skyrim, since he had mentioned it more than once a day over the past month, but I didn’t think it would be something I’d like. I was wrong. After standing in line for over two hours in the cold, my boyfriend, Derrick, came running to the car with a huge box (the special collector’s edition.), he practically vibrated in his seat all the way home from excitement.

At first glance, I did not really get interested in the game, proceeding to make dinner while Derrick poured over the contents of his box and started the storyline, then I spotted the dragon. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve had a soft spot for anything dragon related, so when I spotted a dragon on the t.v. I became instantly interested in watching him play. After a few hours of playing, he offered me a chance to play, and after seeing how complex the game play was, I was a little intimidated, but he urged me to try, so I did. I was instantly hooked! I played for a few hours, as I worked my way through the intricate plot line, learned the stories behind interesting people I met along the way, and slowly but surely began to get better at the fighting system. Eventually he did get me to give up the game, though I watched him play the rest of the night, learning the do’s and don’ts right alongside him, and giving advice that he probably did not want.

Ever since that day any opportunity I get I hop onto the game, trying to finish just one more quest line, then another. Skyrim is so full of quests including the main quest line, faction quests, and general area quests that it takes forever to even put a dent in them. Added to that is the replay value that the game has, due to it having so many races to choose from, each one has different talents that may or may not make your journey through the world of Skyrim easier, but they are sure to make it interesting. I look forward to spending lots more time in Skyrim, I’m sure if you pick up this game then you will agree with me, this is without a doubt the best game of the year!
