Things You’ll Need:

Butcher paper
Tape
Tacky glue or Mod Podge
Sponge brush
Tissue paper
Poster board
Pencil
Scissors
Fishing line

Instructions:

Step 1 – Place a 12-by 18-inch piece of butcher paper on a flat surface with the shiny side up. Tape the edges of the butcher paper to the work surface to hold in place.

Step 2 – Tear multiple colors of tissue paper into small 1- to 1 ½-inch pieces. Set aside.

Step 3 – Apply a layer of tacky glue or Mod Podge to a 6-inch area on the butcher paper. Immediately place overlapped pieces of tissue paper in the glue. Press and smooth the tissue paper to remove all air bubbles. Repeat the process until the entire piece of butcher paper is covered with colored tissue paper pieces.

Step 4 – Apply a layer of tacky glue or Mod Podge over the top of the tissue paper. Allow to dry until the glue is completely clear.

Step 5 – Draw and cut the desired frame shape from poster board. Draw all lines so they are at least 3/8-inch thick. The width of the frame is required to adhere the faux stained glass.

Step 6 – Flip the completed frame over. Trace around the edge on the poster board and cut the flipped shape out. The two sides of the frame must be opposite one another so the colored side of the poster board will show when complete.

Step 7 – Place one frame shape on the dried tissue paper. Flip the frame shape so the colored side or front side is facing you. Trace around the outside edge of the frame.

Step 8 – Carefully peal the tissue paper from the butcher paper. Cut just inside the traced line to create the faux stained glass shape.

Step 9 – Flip one picture frame over so the back side is facing up. Squeeze a line of glue along the center of the outside edge. Center and place the cut out stained glass shape on the glue.

Step 10 – Squeeze a second line of glue directly on top of the first. Turn the second frame so the front side is facing up. Center and place the frame on the stained glass shape. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Step 11 – Poke or punch a small hole center of the top edge of the frame. String fishing line through the hole to hang.

The completed faux stained glass shapes work well hanging in a window off a suction cup hook.
