Extreme Couponing: Making a List, Checking it Twice

Good morning fellow couponers (and future ones too!). It took me over one hour yesterday to go through every newspaper ad, clip all coupons and organize them. I used to be the type to put off organizing my coupons and I would leave them all in a pile in the hopes I would remember to go back and clip them out before shopping. Well, we see how that has worked over the years. I rarely used coupons, unless I was looking at the pile and said “That looks good for dinner.”

Not no more! I am organized and ready to plan my first extreme couponing challenge. For my first trip I am going to one local store, Publix, which is having some great Buy 1 Get 1 Free (BOGO) sales this week. With ad in hand I sat down and went through every page highlighting items I believe I have coupons for and items we can use in the house.

Because I am against paying full price for anything this month, I will only purchase from my coupon stash. (With the exception of household necessities that rarely have coupons for them, such as milk and some meat products.) Because of the stash of coupons I have collected over the past few weeks this process is taking more than I thought, but the outlook is very positive.

I have found three awesome deals that so far are saving me more than 56 percent!!! Here is what I have found so far:

BOGO — Hamburger Helper – Purchase 6 @$1.59 each = $9.54 BOGO Price = $4.77 – 0.75 manufac. Coupon x2 = $3.27 That’s $0.54 each!! Bertolli Frozen Skillet, Bake or Meal Soup – Purchase 2 @ $5.99 – $2 Publix Coupon x2 – $1 manufac. Coupon x2 = $2.99 each!! M&M’s — Purchase 5 bags for $11.60 – 0.55 Publix coupon – $1 manufac. Coupon x5 = $6.05 PLUS get a Publix Reusable Bag for FREE!

Not bad for just starting my shopping list. Check back tomorrow to check out my complete shopping list and to get tips on how to check stores for the best sales and coupon advantages.

Happy savings!!
