Costly Calculations! a Brief Look at Which NFL Teams Dropped the Ball in 2011

A multitude of teams this season have seen their calculations (or should I say miscalculations) on numerous players or coaches, put them in a huge hole halfway into the 2011 regular season.

Whether it was a glaring lack of addressing issues at certain positions, going with the wrong player at one specific position or retaining a head coach that should have been let go a long time ago – this look at the NFL’s most costly miscalculations will delight gridiron fans everywhere!

Miami – The Dolphins dropped the ball in a big way with both, beleaguered quarterback Chad Henne and lame duck head coach Tony Sparano.

Cleveland – Maybe it’s me, but I’m thinking Mike Holmgren may have dropped the ball in naming Pat Shurmur head coach and not trying to bring in a bigger ‘name’ coach.

Jacksonville – The Jags still haven’t fired head coach Jack Del Rio, which is just foolish!

Indianapolis – The Colts apparently never had a contingency pan in place should Peyton Manning ever go down – and that’s just not too bright.

San Diego – Maybe it’s Norv Turner, maybe it’s Phillip Rivers, whatever the case, the Chargers continue to underachieve on a perennial basis.

Denver – Tim Tebow is a special kind of ‘character’ player. Unfortunately, it appears he’s no starting NFL quarterback.

Dallas – Maybe the Cowboys should have been getting a backup prepared to play in the near future, because clearly, Tony Romo is mediocre at best when the pressure is highest.

Washington – Yeah, Mike Shanahan, that Rex Grossman and John Beck sure are the net comings of Johnny Unitas, just like you said in the preseason – not!

Chicago – The Bears still don’t have any quality wide receivers to go along with the gifted Matt Forte. Can anyone say Terrell Owens?

Minnesota – Maybe the Minnesota Vikings should have looked real hard at Donovan McNabb’s play from last season – because he’s clearly not a starter anymore. Too bad it took the Vikes one half-dozen games to figure that out.

Tampa Bay – Just wondering if the Bucs had any plans on getting some quality offensive skill positions players.

Atlanta – Just wondering again whether the Falcons have decided to actually get some solid defensive players.

Carolina – Damn the Panthers really blew their No. 1 draft pick by drafting that Cam Newton fella’ didn’t they? Okay, I’m being facetious here!

Seattle – Maybe Pete Carroll should have thought twice about letting Matt Hasselbeck go and compounding the mistake by going with the awful Tavaris Jackson.

Arizona – How’s that Kevin Kolb signing going Cardinals fans?

St. Louis – Just wondering if the Rams have any plans on getting some offensive talent to go along with Sam Bradford and Steven Jackson.
