Choosing Cost Efficient Lighting for Homes

Families and households are starting to pinch pennies more than ever and look in every direction in order to save a few extra dollars. One of the most common ways to save money for a household without spending too much money remodeling anything is to go out and replace all the household light bulbs with energy efficient light bulbs. There are many different types of light bulbs available on the market that helps reduce the cost of monthly electricity. Take a look at the newer incandescent light bulbs that have been redesigned to help save money as well as CFL and LED light bulbs.

Incandescent Energy Savers. Newer incandescent light bulbs have been proven to save up to at least 25% more than that of the traditional incandescent light bulbs. This is because the newer light bulbs have been redesigned to have a capsule around the filament rather than a coil which increases the bulbs efficiency. The newer incandescent bulbs have also proven themselves to be more efficient than their predecessor by lasting three times longer and coming in a wide variety of colors all capable of dimming.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL). CFL’s have become increasingly popular over the last few years because of their unique curly look and the fact that they use ¼ of the energy than that of incandescent light bulbs. CFL’s save an average of 75% in energy costs virtually making it so that the light bulbs pay for themselves. They last 10 times longer than incandescent and also come in a variety of colors and are capable of being equipped with dimmers. However, these light bulbs are made with a small amount of mercury and must be recycled properly rather than thrown into the trash.

Light Emitting Diode (LED). The LED light bulb has also become increasingly popular but at a much slower rate. The little light bulb inside electrical devices such as cell phones and IPOD’s is actually a small LED light that can last 25 times longer than the incandescent light bulbs. The small indicator light has grown to be available in 40W and 60W LED light bulbs that can be used to light up any room in the house. The LED light bulb is the most energy efficient light bulb available on the market as of now but due to high costs and manufacturing prices only a limited amount of small wattage LED light bulbs are for sale. However, as energy saving becomes more popular so will the LED light bulbs.
