Champions Reign Supreme at Genesis

Genesis is a TNA wrestling Pay-Per-View (PPV), which took place January 8 th , 2012. Genesis featured four Championship Matches the TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match, the X-Division Championship Match, the TNA Tag Team Championship Match, and the Knockouts Championship Match.

The TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match featured the Champion Bobby Roode and the challenger Jeff Hardy. Hardy looked like he would be leaving Genesis as the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Roode knew that which is why he kicked the referee. Roode’s attack on the referee lead to him being disqualified. This allowed Hardy to pick up the victory but Roode remained Champion.

The X-Division Championship Match featured the Champion Austin Aries and the challengers Zema Ion, Kid Kash, and Jesse Sorensen. Aries successfully defend his Championship by pinning Sorensen. Aries got some help from the already eliminated Ion. As Sorensen headed to the top rope, Ion grabed his foot. This allowed Aries to nail Sorensen with a ‘Drop Kick’. Aries followed it up by delivering a ‘Brain Buster’ from the second rope. Aries covered and got the three count. This allowed Aries to pick up the victory and remain X-Division Champion.

The TNA Tag Team Championship Match featured the Champions Matt Morgan and Crimson and the challengers Samoa Joe and Magnus. Crimson and Morgan picked up the victory by nailing Magnus with a ‘Double Choke Slam’. Morgan pinned and got the three count, allowing him to pick up the victory for his team.

The Knockouts Championship Match featured the Champion Gail Kim and the challenger Mickie James. Kim was able to pick up the victory via disqualification. The Match ended when Madison Rayne dropped some brass knuckles from her cage. The referee spotted the knuckles and removed them as Rayne tossed down another pair. James got the second pair instead of Kim. James nailed Kim with the brass knuckles but the referee saw it. The referee had no choice but to disqualify James and award the victory to Kim.

Other Superstars besides the Champions picked up victories as well. Kurt Angle defeated James Storm. Gunner defeated Rob Van Dam (RVD). Devon defeated ‘The Pope’ D’Angelo Dinero. Abyss defeated Bully Ray in a Monster’s Ball Match.

Kurt Angle defeated James Storm by using his own finishing maneuver against him. Storm attempted ‘The Last Call’ but Angle used the referee as a shield. Angle pushed the referee out of the way, hit Storm with a ‘Low Blow’, and nailed him with ‘The Last Call’. Angle covered and got the three count, allowing him to pick up the victory.

Gunner defeated RVD with some help from the concrete floor. As Ric Flair was distracting the referee, Gunner pulled the mats back and nailed RVD with a ‘DDT’ onto the exposed floor. Gunner picked up RVD and rolled him back into the ring. Gunner covered and got the three count, allowing him to pick up the victory.

Devon defeated ‘The Pope’ by dropping him in the middle of the ring. ‘The Pope’ attempted the ‘DDE’ but Devon moved. This allowed Devon to drop ‘The Pope’ in the middle of the ring. Devon covered and got the three count, allowing him to pick up the victory.

Abyss defeated Bully Ray by nailing him with ‘The Black Hole Slam’ on top of a bared wire board. Abyss covered and got the three count. This allowed Abyss to pick up the victory as per the stipulation Abyss does not have to rejoin Immortal.
