Brown Sugar – the Rolling Stones

You know how you hear a song a thousand times and never really listen to the lyrics?

Well growing up in my household and having a father with an eclectic taste in music, there would always be heavy rotations of Motown with an occasional U2, The Rolling Stones, and KISS added in for diversity.

Of all the rock bands played in my house, The Rolling Stones was one that my dad played often. I probably heard the song “Brown Sugar” a thousand times and never really quite listened to the words. That is until LAST NIGHT!

So last night I was on a quest to find information about an incredibly sexy 90’s soul singer that I once loved named Lisa Fischer. I found that she’s been touring with the Rolling Stones since 1995 as their sexy backup singer and was getting rave reviews for her sexual and playful antics with Mick Jagger on stage. I was reading a blog about her and the blogger says that he doesn’t understand why Lisa Fischer would be touring with such an “Anti-Black woman” Rock Band, and I was like huh??? I was confused, so I read more.

The blogger goes on to say that the lyrics to “Brown Sugar” are racist and degrading towards black women. So I immediately go to search for some lyrics. Not only was I surprised by the lyrics, I was turned on! Mick Jagger isn’t racist, he’s KINKY. And when you see him and Lisa Fischer on stage together, you will see why he wrote the lyrics to Brown Sugar. Mick’s got him a Black Girl Fetish. Shit, that’s not racist at all, and I applaud him for being open and writing a legendary song about a fetish that most white dudes would keep a secret.

I was reading the history behind the song and Jagger wrote the song with his then secret girlfriend Marsha Hunt in mind. Not only did they have an affair; he fathered his oldest child with her.

Mick tried to pull the ole, “I’m not that Baby’s Daddy”, but Marsha Hunt said let’s take a paternity test.

And in the famous words of The Maury Povich Show, “Mick You ARE the father”….
