Baby Bath Apron

Bath time with an infant is so much fun. The tiny little thing counts on you to keep him or her clean, and that, you do. Whether you’re holding the baby in the big tub, or giving the bath from a baby tub, it can be a little messy. With the baby splashing you can get pretty wet, and when you lift the baby out of the water, you end up with clothing that is sopping wet. That’s why it’s a good idea to make a bath apron.

It’s really easy to turn a bath towel into a bath apron that will protect your clothing while keeping the towel you need handy. Use a regular bath towel or even a beach towel to make the apron. Fold the towel, lengthways, and make a chalk or pencil mark – or just iron the towel – to mark the center of one of the short sides of the towel.

Mark an area three inches to the left of the center, and another which is three inches from the right of the center. These marks will show you where to sew the straps for the apron.

Use two pieces of twill tape to make the straps which will allow you to keep the apron on. Cut the tape long and sew one piece to one of your off-center marks and the other piece of tape to the opposite mark. Sew a small square around the area where the twill tape meets the towel. You might also sew an “x” in the middle of each square as a decorative bit.

Decide on how you want to make a closure for the straps which go around your neck. One way is to sew the two ends of tape together. With this design you simply pull the bath apron on over your head.

Another way to make a closure is to just leave the straps long and tie them on. You can leave them tied, and slide your head in through the opening, or you can tie the apron on each time to ensure you don’t mess up your hair.

Yet another closure is made using Velcro. Just sew Velcro dots or squares onto the ends of the twill tape and use them to close the tie around the neck.

The bath apron is also a towel. Just pick up the baby and wrap the towel around him or her to dry. You’ll protect your clothing at the same time you dry off baby so you won’t have to run and change your clothes, or walk around in wet clothes, after bath time, like you usually do.
