Attractions on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk

It is called a boardwalk, but it is not made of boards. The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is made of concrete. It is 3 miles long and is a huge attraction to beach goers. Not only is the Virginia Beach Boardwalk popular today, it is full of history. It was first built in 1888 and was 5 blocks long. At that time, the boardwalk was made of wooden planks.

After going through some extensive renovations, the boardwalk expanded to its 3 mile, 28 feet wide, size. The boardwalk offers easy access to bikers and walkers at the beach. You will find plenty of roller bladders and skateboarders. There are even ramps to make handicapped access easy.

There are many restaurants and ocean front hotels along the boardwalk. You will not be deprived of shopping on the boardwalk. There are many upscale shops and boutiques to give you some shopping thrills.

The boardwalk often has street vendors performing throughout the day. If you enjoy museums, there are some historic ones and a variety of monuments and sculptures. The kids will love the amusement area with carnival rides and games. If you have a fisherman with you, there is a fishing pier off of the boardwalk. You will never need to look far to find some outdoor entertainment.

Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum – Located at 1113 Atlantic Avenue, this museum is the oldest beach house that is still standing, in Virginia Beach. The house was built in 1895 and has a whopping 22 rooms. There are plenty of antiques, artwork, and artifacts located in the museum. You will also enjoy the seaside garden.

Virginia Beach Fishing Pier – Located at 15th Street, oceanfront, this is a popular destination for visitors. The pier is open from April through October. Hours vary in the spring and fall, but in the summer you can enjoy the pier 24 hours a day. You will not need a fishing license, but there is a nominal fee to walk or fish on the pier.

Boardwalk Amusements
– Located at 15th street, the small amusement park offers fun and excitement for kids of all ages. The amusement park reminds you of a carnival. During the summer, the park is open daily, but beginning in September it is only open on weekends.

Beach Street USA
– Located between the streets 17 and 25, there is always entertainment happening in the summer. You can enjoy festivals, fireworks and street performers. During the evenings, there are plenty of live concerts and performances. The fireworks happen regularly, so check the schedule.

Naval Aviation Monument – Located at 25th street, the Naval Aviation Monument dedicated to the Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps since the early 1900s. You will be thrilled to have a history experience while you are on the beach. The monument contains all of the names from all of the aircraft carriers.

Anyone visiting the Virginia Beach area needs to take in the sites at the boardwalk. You can experience anything from people watching to fishing to shopping to historic sites. You name it, they have it!
