An Interview with Alecia Mixi Demner of Stitched Up Heart

An exciting new band that is touring the country is Stitched Up Heart. The band, led by the vibrant Alecia Mixi Demner, is doing shows with Evolove and Gemini Syndrome as part of the Reinforcement Tour. I recently caught up with Alecia in between stops.

Real quick, where did the name Stitched Up Heart come from?

There are a few meanings to the name. It’s something Mixi wants to leave to the eye of the viewer for now.

For those not hip on Stitched Up Heart, how would you describe the band’s sound?

It’s a mix of explosive beetle-juice flavored Bubblegum wrapped in a squealing guitar case of rock.

I read that the band has only been together since 2010. What were you doing before Stitched Up Heart?

Everyone was just playing music just to play it in other bands. None of the projects seemed to be what we all knew was “IT.” That’s why we are all so dedicated. Because we know this is the one.

The band is currently on tour with Evolove and Gemini Syndrome. How did you get involved with this tour?

Danny Z was working with Gemini and asked what bands are doing things in L.A. so he could send them on the road. They pointed him in our direction and the rest was history.

The band has participated in SXSW and Warped Tour. What did you guys learn from being a part of these two huge festivals?

That was like pieces of dreams coming together. Playing festivals like that the first year a band is rare. We couldn’t even believe we were playing it. As far as learning goes, we are ALWAYS learning.

The EP, “Escape the Nightmare,” is out and fans can pick them up at tour stops. Why was the decision made to produce an EP instead of a full-length album?

Money, demand, time. Lots of reasons! If we could make a million song album we would.

Will there be a full-length album soon?

Of course.

How have fans reacted to the EP?

People seem to really like it! It’s always a mystery putting out something new.

This is very important. If I turned on your iPod, what guilty pleasure would be on there that may be a surprise to fans?

Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald.
