Amy Winehouse: Possible Death from Seizures

It has become all too common knowledge at this point that Amy Winehouse suffered from alcohol and drug dependency. When she was found dead, it was assumed that she had somehow overdosed, and the end result was her death. However, now evidence as a result of her recent toxicology report is indicating otherwise.

Mitch Winehouse, father of Amy, now suspects that Amy had suffered a seizure as a result of the detoxification process she was attempting to undertake as reported by TV Guide. In fact, for alcoholics, the detox period can be very dangerous, and in fact it is recommended that those who suffer from this disease do it under a doctors care. Amy was not under a doctor’s care and was attempting to recover on her own as reported by her father.

As of now, now cause of Amy’s death is clear. Of course, at this point it does not matter as the Amy has paid the ultimate price and we have lost a blossoming artist.

For those who do not understand alcoholism, and I for one understand it very little, it is a terrible affliction. A dear friend of mine admitted to the problem a few years ago, and I was in shock. I had known this person for years and it had gone undetected.

But the signs surfaced as it progressed; smelling of alcohol at work, unexplained injuries and accidents, missed days at work.

Eventually, I got the call. My friend had not shown up for work and when I went to check on him, he was in an alcohol stupor that I found shocking. This was his true self, how he was when no one was around to help him cope with life’s troubles.

What has since emerged is my friend’s ongoing battle with the disease that destroys everything that it touches. My friend has had multiple relapses, but each time they grow further apart and each one seems to be less destructive than the last.

No one in their right mind wants to experience this state of destruction that is why we label it as a disease. And sadly, no one can solve their problem on their own. That is why Alcoholics Anonymous is what is today. Recently, my friend, who attended a meeting, call to tell me over 200 people showed up for a meeting. 200 people working together to fight a disease that seeks to destroy their lives, if they cannot control it. They are 200 strong united in their battle against a common enemy.

This disease is far more rampant than you might think. I never understood how rampant it was, or how destructive it is.

Sadly, Amy fought this disease on her own, and she lost the battle. Hopefully, other victims can learn from this and will know they do not have to be alone. Others will stand with you in your time of need.
