A Review of the Walnut Creek, CA Dog Park

If you are looking for a fun place to get some exercise for your dog in Walnut Creek, this location can’t be beat. The Walnut Creek Dog Park, located at Heather Farm Park, is the most convenient dog park for Walnut Creek residents.

At the park, you will find a large grassy area that is fairly well maintained. However, as the grass is worn throughout the year, dirt patches inevitably form. There are two cement picnic tables and three benches, half of which are shielded by shade trees. In the winter, when the trees are bare, there is still ample shade, something the Newhall Park in Concord lacks. One of the great benefits to the park is the paved track bordering the perimeter of the park. This allows dog owners to stroll without the risk of stepping in something unfortunate and smelly.

Because of the park’s central location, the park is frequented by many regulars, assuring that your dog will almost always have a playmate. The dogs who visit the park are mostly well behaved, with the occasional loud barker. People are generally very friendly at the dog park and are happy to share a quick or lengthy chat about their dogs. It is a fantastic place to get to know your neighbors!

The Walnut Creek Dog Park is open seven days a week, but is closed on Tuesday mornings until noon for maintenance. On weekdays, the park is open from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm or sunset (whichever is earlier). On weekends, the park opens at 8:00 am. Be aware that the park closes for several months in the spring to reseed the grass. During the park’s closure, dogs and their people can usually be found at Newhall Perk, Hap Magee Park, Paso Nogal Park, Point Isabel, or frolicking in the open space.
