A Review of Heights Asian Cafe in Houston, TX

Heights Asian Café in Houston, TX serves fresh Chinese and Vietnamese food in the Houston Heights. The restaurant has quickly developed a loyal following because the service is impeccable, the food is fresh and tasty, their portions are large, and there are a plethora of menu items from which to choose including many vegetarian options. I have eaten the food at Heights Asian Café many times and the food never tastes greasy or heavy. Each dish is prepared to order using quality ingredients. This is one Asian restaurant where you won’t feel hungry five minutes after you eat either.

I have tried a variety of dishes (both Vietnamese and Chinese) and particularly love the Vietnamese spring rolls. Though this menu item is something that is readily available at grocery stores and most Asian restaurants, there’s just something about the Vietnamese spring rolls at Heights Asian Café in Houston, TX. They are fresh and savory, and their peanut sauce has the perfect blend of spicy and sweet.

My new favorite dish is the Vietnamese Pho Bowl. It is a large (and I mean large) bowl of soup with a wonderful broth base filled with rice noodles, lean (very lean which I appreciate) flank steak (you can also get chicken), onions and scallions. On the side, customers are served basil, bean sprouts, cilantro, chili peppers, and sauce. The Pho is the perfect combination of a hearty yet light, refreshing meal. I’ve had Pho at other restaurants but I like the Pho at Heights Asian Café best because the ingredients are fresh and the beef is extra lean which makes it easy to eat. with chopsticks The broth isn’t loaded with sodium like it is at so many other Asian restaurants (which for me can ruin the meal). After I had the Vietnamese Pho Bowl at Heights Asian Café, I actually wanted to eat it again and again, and even buy the ingredients to make it at home. Yes, it was that good and I don’t normally like soup.

Heights Asian Café has standard favorites like egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, and wonton soup as well. And for appetizers they have everything from edamame to dumplings. All entrees are served with either brown rice or white rice and as strange as it might seem to rave about something as boring as rice, the brown rice at Heights Asian Café is one of my favorite things on their menu. I don’t know how they manage to create the perfect brown rice (goodness knows I’ve tried many times with my rice maker) but if you’re a fan of brown rice, this is the place to go.

Heights Asian Café has Buns (aka Vietnamese vermicelli bowls) and noodles like Pad Thai. And for those who crave more Chinese food than Vietnamese, they have the usual fare like General Tso’s chicken, Hunan chicken, broccoli beef, and sesame chicken. For vegetarians there are tofu and eggplant based dishes as well.

Grab a deal with the Heights Asian Café lunch menu where you can get an entrée, rice, soup and a veggie roll for less than $9.
