A Poem to Mark the Season – Autumn Breeze

(Here is a poem in traditional AA, BB form in homage to my Mom,
who always loved my verse but liked it even better when it rhymed.)

********** Autumn Breeze **********

The wind blew the summer right out to sea,

Leaving the sky so clear and so free,

And crisp air gives hint of the winter to come,

With the first cool eve since summer’d begun.

The long burn of summer has taken its toll,

Setting fire to colors in trees on the knoll,

While over the landscape our eye now perceives,

The signal of fall, in the burning of leaves.

Bright colored asters and red creeper vines,

And the long vees of geese are yet further signs,

That the wind has brought autumn in on the breeze,

And our long summer days are become memories.
