A Classic Nashville Karaoke Dive Bar

The “Internationally Famous Twin Kegs” is a karaoke bar that emulates the essence of everything southern as it lies in a delightfully grimy little scrap of south Nashville Tn, near the Berryhill area. On Friday nights only, fifty or more people pile into a tiny orange and white building located across from the Krispy Kreme on Thompson Lane, and wail their hearts out to personal favorites. Great burgers, cheap cold beer and smoking allowed inside lure folks young and old through the door.

Established in 1960, this tiny little building has served most of the current regulars since the day it opened. If you ask anyone over fifty they will be happy to tell you stories of the bar, and even happier if you buy them a beer for their time. Everybody knows each other, and they are happy to welcome new comers, as long as you sing. Twin Kegs also houses one of the few shuffle board tables in Nashville, and if you don’t know how to play ask around the bar.

Cover your beers, because the regulars get there early and occupy the tables in the back of the bar, making everyone else prime targets for the little bits of napkin that they roll into balls and dip into their ice water filled beer buckets before launching through the bar in a playful war. Go back for more than one karaoke night, and you will realize that the regulars have perfected specific songs, some accompanied by choreographed dances. They always drink the same thing, eat the same thing, and sing the same thing.

Not only a karaoke bar, this dive sells the best burger in the city. The “BBB” is two six ounce Cajun seasoned burger patties with cheese smashed in between before its cooked on the grill, topped with two more slices of cheese (American and Swiss) and bacon. Served on a large white bun, with all the fixins, and a steak knife stuck through the center. I like to order mine with onion rings and a miller highlife.

If you are looking for karaoke variety, I have heard Iron Maiden, Ben Harper, Maroon 5, Bon Jovi, Hank Jr and Sr, and the regulars perform “In the Pines” all together on stage every Friday night. This is the place to take someone if you want them to think you know about out of the way places, they only serve beer, and you will be treated like a regular on your first visit.
