5 Ways to Burn Extra Calories at Work

Do you often find yourself wishing you could work at a livelier job? Bogged down in the office chair punching away numbers into your computer can be tiresome for anyone, however, there are ways you can overcome the lack of exercise you feel at work! This article will outline a few solutions for you to overcome the monotony of daily office work and burn extra calories so you can counter the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

Commuting: Commuting to work is a great idea depending on where you live. A bike ride or a long walk to work will leave you feeling less restless by the time you actually get to work. If you do happen to live too far away from your work, you could get off of the bus a few stops early and simply walk the rest of the distance to your work.

Make the Most of Your Breaks: During your break at work, simply don’t go to the corner and stand around drinking coffee with the rest of your co-workers, go for a walk. If you’re really serious you can buy a pedometer and try to walk a certain number of steps in your break. You can also stand around your work area and stretch out and do stationary exercises; just don’t be too distracting to your fellow workers!

Use the Restroom: Wait… how can using the restroom possibly help me exercise at work? It’s simple really, if you really need to use the restroom don’t settle for the one that’s 10 feet from your desk, walk to the restroom that’s a few floors below you. It doesn’t seem like much, but walking up and down flights of stairs is great exercise even if it’s just to go to the restroom.

Walk to Lunch: If you’re going out to lunch, don’t ride your car over if you’re looking to exercise, walk! You shouldn’t walk if it will make you late or cut your entire lunch break that you’d normally spend eating, but if it’s possible, always try to walk anywhere you go, including lunch.

Look for Opportunities to Stand:
If you’re feeling restless sitting around at your computer, try to find things you need to accomplish that involve being out of your chair. If you need to print a document, walk over to the printer to pick it up and stretch out while you’re on your way there.
