3 Tips to Help Prevent Birds from Hitting Windows

There are so many birds that go and hit your windows. And they seem to hit my living room window and the springtime more than any other. I might be cleaning or watching TV and bam, the poor bird just flew in my window thinking the way was clear into my house. And after immediate inspection, to my luck most of the birds leave a couple fallen feathers and a mark on the window. Now I try not to clean my windows so much to help prevent birds from hitting my window. But I know dirty windows are not enough to prevent these birds from hitting my windows.

Hang a Potted Plant in the Window

This is not only natural but helps your house and even the air you breathe inside your house. I love hanging plants so I just moved a plant so it’s hanging right in the middle of the window and so far after two weeks, the potted plant seems to be helping prevent birds from hitting the window.

Hang a Couple Shiny Ribbon Wind Catchers

Shiny Ribbons not only look nice, they also flash in the sunlight like flashing headlights to birds. Flashing ribbons will also make nice colorful light in the room. These ribbons are easy to make if you can not find them outright in the stores, just check out the outdoors section in a department store or even a craft store for nice shiny objects that dance around in the wind. This can help stop birds from hitting windows.

If You are Driving in Your Car, Keep Your Headlights On

I had an eagle swoop down and fly right in front of my car winshield before when I lived in Alaska. Let me tell you, seeing a giant bird come within feet of hitting your car window can really scare you. Not only is he a large bird but also protected by law. So now I always drive with my headlights on to prevent birds from hitting my car windows and so far no more fatal collations or near misses. I am not sure if car headlights for sure prevent them, but I am not going to stop just in case.
