I am a supervisor and have an employee who is depressed because of his family reasons?
Q: I am a supervisor and have an employee who is depressed because of his family reasons? How do I deal with him? how should I support him and make sure his performance is not hurt?CategorySocial Science > Psychology
A: Briefly, express your sympathy for his situation and leave it at that. Work is not a good place to talk about sad or depressing problems because he will be thinking about it even more throughout the day. Keep the workplace a fun and happy place to be! Joke around, make each other laugh and really pretend like everything is great. He doesn’t want people looking at him with sympathy all day, that will bring him down more. Let the workplace be a fun place to be where he can escape his problems for a while. If you want to be there for him, you can invite him out for a coffee or drink for a bit after work. You can wind down, and talk about the situation in a more suitable and relaxed place. If he does spill his guts about the whole thing, great! You can be a sympathetic friend in this neutral place. Remember though, when you return to work, don’t bring it up again. Keep the two separate. He will know he has your support, and will appreciate your respect in not bringing up those negative emotions at work.
Am I the only teenager on this planet who constantly feels depressed?
Q: I know that question is a bit extreme, but I am ALWAYS depressed, and my dad says it’s because I’m a typical teenager. I find this hard to believe at times b/c I don’t know any other ppl my age who feel the way I do. I’m 17 and I just feel like sometimes my world is crumbling down and I want to escape, but while knowing that there are other people in this world who undergo worser situations. So, is how i’m feeling just a teenage thing or something else…?
A: You’re not the only one, I was there once and it totally sucked. I felt as if everyone just didn’t get me as if my problems were all in my head. Very lonely and very worrisome. If I had known then what I know now I would have told my doctor about it. I found out that due to my menstrual cycle my hormones where all over the place and throwing my psyche into turmoil. If I had that knowledge when I was younger I could have saved myself much heartache, self doubt, and suicidal thoughts. Don’t freak out with the right information you will be able to get a handle on it. Your not going crazy, it will be O.K. Hope I could help.
