What is Faith?

Faith is having trust and confidence in whatever you set out to do. Regardless of circumstances or condition, you believe without a shadow of a doubt.

True unwavering faith is developed through the years. Having a strong relationship with God is the start of your journey. In Matthew 17:20 Jesus speaks in these words: “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

A powerful verse that proclaims if you have the smallest faith that is genuine then you can do all things. The mustard seed denotes the smallest seed, which in turn produced the largest of herbs. This is the nature of faith.

Here are five natural ways to apply faith to your everyday life.

Prayer – Prayer is a remarkable way to build a relationship with God, which in turn will build your faith daily. Prayer can be anything from just talking to God and telling him how your day was. Thanking God for the things that he has blessed your life with. The key is to feel comfortable when you are praying to God. Daily prayer will create a comfort level with God, making it easier to put your trust in him.

Meditation – Daily meditation has been known to reduce stress as well as bring peace into your life. It is easier to have faith when you are less stressed. A basic meditation I use is called 2-2-5. This is a short but powerful meditation that can reduce stress in minutes, by taking the body into a deep, relaxed state of mind. By incorporating Meditation into your daily life, you will not only find your stress level decreasing but your faith in God increasing. When a person is less stressed and relaxed, her faith in God is that much stronger.

Quiet Time – Be still and let God. Deepak Chopra in his book, The Still Small Voice explains that our inner voice is God speaking to us. Many of us do not hear that voice if we have constant inner chatter going on. Quiet time allows you to silence your mind, allowing you to hear your inner voice.

Amidst your busy day, take 5-10 minutes and find a quiet place and just be still. Focus on your breathing as you connect with God. Your ability to hear that still small voice will strengthen your faith in God, for you will be clear on the messages he is sending you. Let go and let God.

Bible Study – Reading bible verses on faith is probably the strongest way to incorporate faith into your daily life. It keeps us in daily reminder that, with God, all things are possible. If reading a few daily passages is not enough, an enjoyable and effective way to stay consistent is by joining a bible study group.

Walk by Faith, not by sight – This is a hugely popular expression and extremely powerful. When you have the faith of a mustard seed, you no longer doubt your outcome in life, but let God guide your steps.

When a person takes the leap to walk by faith and not by sight, they are putting their trust in the Almighty spirit to direct them. It is a scary thought at first, but if you have the faith of a mustard seed, it will feel oh so very easy.
