What exactly does "hypomanic" mean?
Q:
A: Hypomania: A condition similar to mania but less severe. The symptoms are similar with elevated mood, increased activity, decreased need for sleep, grandiosity, racing thoughts, and the like. However, hypomanic episodes differ in that they do not cause significant distress or impair one's work, family, or social life in an obvious way while manic episodes do. Hypomanic people tend to be unusually cheerful, have more than ample energy, and need little sleep. Hypomania is a pleasurable state. It may confer a heightened sense of creativity and power. However, hypomania can subtly impair a person's judgment. Too much confidence can conceal the consequences of decisions. Hypomania can be difficult to diagnose because it may masquerade as mere happiness. It is important to diagnose hypomania because, as an expression of bipolar disorder, it can cycle into depression and carry an increased risk of suicide.
what does hypomanic mean?
Q:
A: Hypomania (literally, below mania) is a mood state characterized by persistent and pervasive elated or irritable mood, and thoughts and behaviors that are consistent with such a mood state. It is distinguished from mania by the absence of psychotic symptoms and by its lower degree of impact on functioning. Hypomania is a feature of some mood disorders, such as narcissistic personality disorder, bipolar II disorder and cyclothymia. [1] Though hypomanic people are often associated with bipolar disorder, it is in this state that many creative talents are in their most productive and successful mood.
How can I stay Hypomanic?
Q: Hey people.......Does anyone know how to stay hypomanic? Is there anything I can do to prolong hypomania. I've read there are people who have stayed hypomanic for up to ten years. Do you have any tips people. I mean of course I'd stay away from alcohol and drugs, I'd sleep every night, I don't know, do you think there is a way to stay hypomanic?
A: No, there is not a "way" to stay hypomanic, and that is really playing with fire if you think you can. Hypomania is not good for you, nor is it good at all for the people in your life who know you or love you. To love hypomania so much that you are willing to risk the peace and happiness and stability of others is extremely selfish---sorry---but it is. And you can't "control" your neurotransmitter levels by willing them to a certain level. That is magical thinking. You say you'd stay away from alcohol and drugs---but really now, hypomania makes people do really stupid things---like drugs and alcohol---and all the other high risk behaviors that make the sufferer such a spectacle and burden to others when untreated. You really WANT that?
