I think you would have had to have been diagnosed with it by now if you did have it. However, if you are worried, the only way to know for sure is to meet with a psychiatrist to find out what you might have.

Could people think I'm bipolar just because my parent is?
Q: I've already been checked numerous times -- I'm not bipolar. But my father is, and possibly other relatives. Could those who know me and know that about my family, could they be thinking I'm bipolar? I'm just wondering. Sometimes people I know seem to treat me a little differently or with "extra care" it seems when let's say we get into a discussion about something or other that's a bit heavier in subject.
A: Could people think that, yeah. But people make assumptions about people all the time. Most people don't even fully understand bipolar so assume things that are not bipolar are. Don't know how often as soon as i see "mood swings" in a topic on here, its just a given that the first half dozen answers usually are "you/he/she are/is bipolar". And it shouldn't matter if you have bipolar or not. Even if you have it people shouldn't treat you differently.....anyone that really understood bipolar wouldnt....unless you actually had bipolar, and in a serious episode which would mean you needed to be addressed differently. Outside of serious episodes, someone with bipolar is just like anyone else.
Do you think someone with bipolar disorder could benefit from DBT, in addition to meds?

Certainly, it can help someone who has any type of difficulty in regulating emotions, including bipolar disorder. If you have access to a therapist trained in DBT, I certainly think it would be worth a try.Barry Hughes, Ph.D.
What would you think if you went to a psychologist/counselor if you knew he had bipolar disease?
Q: I am thinking of going into psychology or counseling program and I wonder if having bipolar disease would be a positive thing or a negative thing if I my future patients knew I was/am suffering from this disease. Would you think that you would want a normal psychologist treating you or would you think that the fact that I have bipolar disease could give me more in the way of treating you? What would you think?
A: it's not a disease- it's a disorder.being bipolar won't stop you from being a good psychologist.not knowing about your subject will.
