Describe your Phobias. Average person has 3 of them.?
Q: I read somewhere that the average person has 3 phobias. I’m curious, what are yours?I myself have a couple:1) Common one is the fear of heights, but as long as there is a barrier between me and the cliff (like a rail or fence) I am okay. If there is nothing preventing me from being pushed off, then I freak out. I even start to get dizzy after a few feet up a ladder because I don’t have something to prevent my fall.2) Fear and repulsion of maggots. I am getting better though, because if I see one, I can get a napkin and kill it. If I see two or more, I freak out sooo much and my husband has to take care of it. If I see a fly around food, it HAS to be killed…3) Fear of walking away from the shore and into the ocean, or into a lake. If I start walking where the water is leveled to my waist and something rubs up against my bare leg, I have to run to shore. I am probably affected by watching “Jaws” at a young age. There might be 1 more, but I can’t think of it right now.
A: Yours aren’t that bad…..mine are:1. Social phobia. I’m always afraid of talking to people. I hate being with a group of people, I get very anxious and I feel as if I’m going to have a heart attack.2. Phone phobia, I’m always afraid of talking on the phone. But I’m getting better at this one though.3. I always fear leaving close people and loved ones and the place I live in. It’s more like attachment issues than a phobia. But it affects me so bad…….If someone (Family or friends) is planning on moving somewhere, I just get very depressed as if it is the end of the world.I have #4! LOL and it’s the worst one.The fear of anything happening to my teeth. I think I would actually have a real heart attack if I find out that I have a cavity or if one of my teeth fell for whatever reason……
Phobias???
Q: 1)What exactly is a phobia?2)What makes something a phobia?3)My fear is when bugs crawl up my pants. it freaks me out because my pants get tighter, and i am like woahhhh. also my fear is walking in to spiderwebs, i don’t know why, but it freaks me out; are those phobias? if not what would make them become a phobia?sorry if i didn’t put this under the right category, i didn’t know where it was suppose to go.
A: Phobia comes from the Greek Phobos fear / terror. A phobia is an extreme fear of something. People can use the term to mean fears in general, but a true phobia is so severe that the person feels they are likely to die if they encounter the feared thing. If I were to offer to pay you a million to walk through a room full of spider webs, would you do it? If you would it is just a fear not a true phobia. (Which is good news for you incidentally.)Fears and phobias are to do with your unconscious mind trying to protect you from something but not quite making the right connection about what you should be warned about.
