Well Forgive Me for Being the Bad Guy

Is it me or are people pretty much doing whatever they want whenever they want. All communities have leash laws for dogs, litter laws and driving laws that are, in my opinion, ignored by a growing number of people.

Recently I decided to conduct an experiment. When I observed someone obviously breaking one of these laws I would say something. So I did.

I was walking my Miniature Schnauzer around a beach access area in Florida. We were minding our business when a large dog, not on a leash, came running up and jumped on us followed by an unconcerned owner. I politely demanded he get his dog away from me and my dog. And I went on to ask if he had heard of the local leash laws. I was told to mind my own business.

I went to shop at a local grocery store. I parked and was walking in when I came across a car parked in front of the store in a no parking zone. The sign was right beside the car. NO PARKING!! I politely brought this to the attention of the two occupants. They said someone they were with had to run into the store. I told them we all had to run into the store and that was why businesses had parking lots. The guy jumped out in a huff and again I get mind my own business.

Yesterday I was walking on the beach when a large wet dog ran up from behind and repeatedly jumped on me. This wasn’t the dogs fault he just wanted to play and I wanted to be left alone. Once the owner caught up I asked if he was aware of the leash laws and the laws banning dogs from beaches in Florida. Indignantly he replied he was aware of the laws but he was practicing civil disobedience. I pointed out that the dog wasn’t jumping on him it was jumping on me! I was asked to mind my own business.

So what did I learn? Evidently everyone else is cool and I need to mind my own business!
