Underground Electric Dog Fence – 4 Great Reasons to Buy One

For many people, dogs are very much like their own children. They are part of the family and very well loved and respected. But, like with other members of the family, they have their own needs and for many dogs, access to a good yard is essential. Of course they also need to be kept safe and one of the best ways to do this is by installing an underground electric dog fence.

What is an underground electric dog fence though? Simply, it is a long length of wire that is buried into the ground around an area of your yard and then connected to a transmitter box that is most likely placed in your garage or a shed. The transmitter needs to be kept inside and access to an electrical outlet is essential. Your dog then has a receiver on a collar that is put around his neck, and essentially whenever he goes near to where the cable is, it emits a signal to the receiver which will then “corrects” the dog, causing him to move away from the fence.

Normally, after the system has been installed, the owner teaches the dog where the track of cable lies, and allows the animal to work out its boundaries. After a few weeks or so, the dog is well aware of where the underground electric dog fence lies and is able to freely move around the yard happily.

This is essentially the basics, but what are the advantages to installing an underground electric fence? Why would you buy one?

1. The first reason is that it negates the requirement of erecting a regular fence that may otherwise detract from the area you live in. There’s often nothing worse than an ugly fence put up purely for a dog that spoils your views or environment.

2. Point 1 leads nicely into point 2. Many neighborhoods have rules and regulations as to what you are allowed and not allowed on your property. The non allowance of fences is often one such rule. So, if you have a dog and you move into such a neighborhood, an underground electric dog fence will solve this problem nicely.

3. If you have a large yard, then erecting a regular fence is going to be very costly. You’d be potentially looking at thousands of dollars, whereas the cost of purchasing an underground electric dog fence is going to be so much cheaper, only in the hundreds of dollars by comparison.

4. Ease of installation. Do you have any idea how to install a regular fence? Digging 3 foot holes, filling with concrete, positioning posts, placing slats etc? Not easy to do. With an underground electric dog fence, all you need to do is dig a trench so many inches down, lay the cable, hook it up to the transmitter and you’re done. Simple, eh?

So there you have it, a simple, cost effective way of giving your dog the freedom he deserves and allowing your hard earned cash to stay where it belongs, in your bank account. An underground electric dog fence is the perfect solution for your dog, your surroundings and of course your pocket!
