Top Five Anticipated PS3 Games in Q4 2011

Fall is nearly here, and the time has come to look at some of the most anticipated games of 2011 on PlayStation 3. While the fourth quarter of 2010 saw plenty of buzz surrounding Call of Duty: Black Ops, this year should offer similar excitement with plenty of quality games slated to hit the shelves. Here is a look at the most anticipated PlayStation 3 games coming out in Q4 of 2011.

NBA 2K12, 10/4

Whether or not the lockout prevents an actual season from taking place, there will be an NBA season in the virtual world. Simply stated, NBA 2K11 was the greatest basketball game ever made. The presentation of the game was incredible and for the first time in decades, it featured the name and likeness of NBA legend Michael Jordan. What has 2K Sports got up its sleeve for this year’s version in NBA 2K12? Fans can expect more of what made last year’s game amazing – more legends of the game, enhanced gameplay, and a better version of the popular My Player mode. NBA 2K12 will impress sports fans and have basketball fans on the edge of their seats all winter long and beyond.

Battlefield 3, 10/25

The series that became popular on PS3 after coming on strong as a PC hit has improved with each release on the home console. Now, fans of this franchise can anticipate an even bigger, more interactive, and polished game. Battlefield games are known for interactive worlds, where nearly every building, vehicle, or landmark can be a part of the action. Battlefield 3 will take gamers across theaters around the world and assuredly offer the same outstanding graphics and audio presentation fans have become accustomed to. The most exciting aspect of this game moving forward will be the ability to partake in air-to-air combat, which will be reason enough for me to pick up this game on release day.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, 11/1

Naughty Dog Software has managed to blow us away with the first two installments of the epic adventures of Nathan Drake. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was unprecedented in its presentation, story, and graphics. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves managed to one-up its predecessor by delivering once again by somehow improving on its already excellent standard. These two award winning titles are widely considered among the greatest games in history. With the third chapter in this saga set to release early in November, fans are clamoring for more.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, 11/8

What would any Q4 be without the release of a Call of Duty title? The series, which has its own cult following, has exploded; it has become one of the most popular and recognizable names in the gaming industry. This was evidenced by the Call of Duty XP event held in Los Angeles early in September. Modern Warfare 3 will arrive in November to fanfare that rivals the most anticipated releases of any major product release in history. This hoopla does in fact have substance, however, as the game has delivered a fantastic multiplayer experience with each offering since the Modern Warfare series began. Modern Warfare 3 looks to capitalize on its reputation for multiplayer innovation by adding Survival Mode to the mix. Activision will also look to improve on its already stellar gameplay engine.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, 11/15

Assassin’s Creed is unique in that it has made its living on story mode, and has shied away from creating a large multiplayer engine like many other games in the action genre. However, in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, expect developer Ubisoft Montreal to enhance the experience of the game by making its multiplayer a part of the story. This is a complete 180-degree switch from its previous philosophy of letting single-player modes carry the titles. This exciting new development, coupled with the tremendous precedent set by the first two games, should prove to make this game one of the most successful of Q4 on PS3.
