Tips for Saving More Money

These days, we can not afford to spend any more than we absolutely have to. Most of us do not even realize just how much money we spend on a weekly basis. I can almost guarantee you that a large chunk of your paycheck is going towards what you want more than what you actually need. You’d be surprised to discover just how much money you are wasting. Here are some simple ways that you can save money on a daily basis.

Limit your visits to fast food chains

Eating out, or ordering in, on a regular basis can get very expensive. Try to get in the habit of cooking. Not only is it healthier to prepare your own meals, it is much cheaper. Also, bring your own beverages. Vending machines can be a rip off!

Join a Wholesale Club

Instead of making multiple trips to the grocery store in a single week, join a wholesale club (e.g. Costco, Sam’s). BJ’s is probably the most popular right now. For only $40 you get a one-year membership. Shopping in bulk can save you tons of time and big bucks. I must admit, you may still get a better deal at Pathmark when it comes to certain items. Shopping at wholesale clubs is best reserved for items that you purchase most frequently (e.g. canned vegetables, juice).

Don’t splurge!

Whether you decide to shop at a wholesale club or local retail chain, it is very important that you avoid buying more than you intended. Keep a shopping list on your fridge at home and don’t forget to take it with you on your trips to the grocery store. Try to get in the habit of only buying what’s on the list. It will be difficult at first, but eventually you gain more discipline.

Get in the habit of walking

This tip is for all drivers. Its no secret that the price of gas has become so expensive that you wind up paying $30 just to fill your tank halfway. I know I would be lost without my car but I’ve tried to get in the habit of leaving my car in the driveway when driving is not absolutely necessary. If your destination is within walking distance, ditch the car! Walking can be fun and saving money on gas is even better.

Become your own hairstylist

I can not begin to tell you how much money I have spent getting my hair done at the salon. We all deserve to be pampered from time to time but paying $50 for a wash and blow ever two weeks puts a real dent in your wallet. It may be a pain but learn how to do your own hair. You may not be a professional but it gets the job done. Try to leave visits to the salon for special occasions and hair emergencies. Men, I know haircuts can get pretty pricey as well. Do your own shape-ups. Plus, lucky for you, most ladies find men with long hair sexy!

Take advantage of Free Night and Weekend Minutes- Why waste minutes if you don’t have to?

Stop paying for features and channels that you don’t use.

I bet you spend more time working and socializing than you do watching television. So, why are you paying for over 200 channels that you don’t even watch? Check out your cable company and see if you can switch to a cheaper package. The same goes for your cell phone plan. Check your monthly bill. If you notice that you are paying for 900 minutes per month when you never use more than 500, it is time for a cheaper plan. Also, keep track of your data plan. Most likely you are paying for more than you even use. You have a right to question your bill statements. Chances are you are being charged for features that you did not even ask for.

Save a dollar a day

Get a piggy bank and put a dollar or two in every day. You will be surprised how fast it adds up.
