Tebow and the Denver Broncos Do it Again

It is just getting ridiculous. The Denver Broncos (8-5) keep finding ways to win football games. Down 10-0 with time running out in the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bears? No problem. It is just your routine last minute comeback authored by Tim Tebow and the Broncos. Unbelievably, Denver is now 7-1 in their last 8 games. The win, combined with a loss by the Oakland Raiders, has vaulted the Broncos into first place in the AFC West. Keep in mind that Denver started 1-4. What is happening in the Mile High City is simply incredible.

I have been watching football since I was a small child and I have never witnessed anything like it. I am thinking that no one else has ever seen anything like this either. It simply defies explanation. If anyone took this script to Hollywood they would likely be told that it was simply unbelievable. Even in a town that makes a living selling the willing suspension of disbelief, what the Denver Broncos are doing is mind-boggling. People are running out of explanations so I am going to offer mine.

Prior to Tebow being drafted last year, I told some people that I thought that God was going to allow Tim Tebow to have some level of success in the NFL in order for Tebow to be able to do the things that God called him to do. It takes money to run foundations, to build hospitals in the Philippines, etc. When Tim Tebow signed his contract last year that would probably have been enough money to allow Tebow to fund some projects about which he feels strongly. However, God did not stop there. He is granting Tebow, and by extension the Denver Broncos, success beyond anyone’s expectations and doing so in a manner that cannot be easily explained. God is giving Tebow a platform on which to stand and proclaim his faith. In exchange, Tebow is honoring God with his words and with his actions.

In Sunday’s game, Tebow started off 3-16 passing through the first three quarters. The Broncos’ offense looked less than impressive. Then in the fourth quarter and overtime Tebow went 18-24 and captained the Broncos to a victory over a stunned Chicago Bears football team. Of course there were some inexplicable plays by Chicago that allowed the Broncos to have a chance to win. Call it chance, call it what you will, but the next time someone asks you to explain Denver’s success, you may want to tell them that it is miraculous. After all, that may just be the only way to explain it.
