Staying Fit as You Get Older

As we age we slow down

Staying fit as we age requires a lot of work. Our metabolism slows down and it is harder to shed unwanted pounds. As we grow older, our motivation lessens and it requires a lot of will power to keep to a fitness routine. Staying active and changing our diet will help a lot to keep the pounds off. This will keep us healthier and looking better the rest of our lives.

The beginning of my day

After the alarm goes off and before I even get out of bed, I start my exercise routine. I stretch my back, arms, and legs to get them limbered up. Then I do 50 sit-ups while I am still on the bed. After showering and getting dressed, I go for a morning jog. I usually jog one block and walk a block until I have gone two miles. This speeds up my metabolism and makes me hungry for breakfast. This is a very important meal that should never be missed. After this, I go to my job at a lumberyard, which also helps keep me fit. I usually walk ten to twelve miles every day there.

After work

After I get home from work, I go to my den which is set up with a weight bench with a rack for bars and a leg lift on the other end. I work my arms one day and my legs the next. I always go through a stretching routine before I do any weight lifting. This keeps me limber while gaining muscle mass. For my arms I bench press 150 pounds at 3 reps of 25 each. For my legs, I put on 200 pounds and do 3 reps of 15 lifts. This keeps my body toned and fit while I age gracefully.

A diet means a lot

As you grow older, you need to start eating healthier. In the mornings I usually have either eggs or oatmeal, along with fresh fruit, including grapes and watermelon. For lunches and dinners I will eat a small portion of chicken or fish, usually about the size of my hand. Along with this I will have vegetables and more fresh fruit. I hardly ever eat bread, cakes, or deserts, which pack on pounds that are hard to get rid off. Follow my exercise regime and you too can grow old staying fit and healthy.
