Review: InFiniti by Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron Model CS33FX

If you’re anything like me, you are always on the lookout for the perfect flat iron. My revolving door of flat irons usually means that I have a backup in case my main one breaks. Unfortunately, the day that my Maxiglide stopped working, six months ago, I didn’t have a back up. I was stuck with big, poufy, frizzy hair and no flat iron. I needed a new iron, pronto! So, I rushed to the nearest Target determined to find an inexpensive iron that would just get me through the night. I found the InFiniti by Conair Professional Series Tourmaline-Ceramic flat iron Model CS33FX for $34.99. Six months later, the InFiniti is still my only flat iron.

One of the first things I noticed about this iron is its weight; this iron is extremely light. After using much heavier irons, it is a treat to be able to use this flat iron for more than an hour without feeling exhausted. Another reason I like this iron is that the 1½-inch extra-long tourmaline ceramic plates are wide enough to handle large sections of hair, which makes the job much easier.

The InFiniti uses infrared energy and heats up in 15 seconds. It maintains its heat for 1 hour, and automatically shuts off after an hour. There are four temperature settings: 365° F, 392° F, 419° F and 446° F/230° C. However, I recommend starting out on the lowest setting, 365° F, and gradually increasing the temperature as needed. This iron gets extremely hot; therefore, you run the risk of burning or damaging your hair if you set the temperature too high.

The only problem I’ve had with the Infiniti is that the raised plates create grooves and crevices that snag and pull my hair. My solution is to carefully position my hair away from the openings and slowly run the iron over my hair. This usually solves the problem. However, I would recommend that Conair remove all gaps around the plates to prevent this from happening with later models.

If you are looking for a great low-cost, versatile flat iron, the InFiniti by Conair is the one for you. Whether you use this iron as your primary iron or as a second iron, you will enjoy its multiple heat settings, automatic shut off and ease of use. Serendipity may have led me to the InFiniti but high performance made me a convert.
