Review: Goldrush Smokie Beef Sticks

I ran out of Mountain Dew last night (I have been saving money by buying it in 2-liter bottles now but I do go through it a little quicker) and decided to stop at the grocery store on my way to work to buy some more; along with a couple other things.

I had a little bit of time to wander around the store before having to worry about getting to work so I ended up checking out their dollar section to see if they had any snacks that would be worth taking to work with me (I had actually eaten breakfast today but wanted something to eat before going to the gym after work). For the most part, they had the same things I’ve had before. But, I noticed something a bit different; Goldrush Smokie Beef Sticks.

This isn’t something I would normally buy (they looked similar to Slim Jims and I’m not a huge fan of that brand). But, for $1, I figured I would try one and ended up eating it this afternoon. While I’m not certain this is something I would buy again, I do have to admit it was pretty good.

I ended up picking out the mild variety of this brand and thought the flavor was excellent. It wasn’t too spicy (like many other brands are; something that always gives me heartburn) but it still had just enough flavor to keep it from being as bland as some other cheap brands I have tried.

Also, unlike many other brands, this wasn’t a beef stick that was tough to bite into or chew. Instead, it was pretty soft. I could bite into it in between phone calls without having to worry about it taking forever to chew up. And, unlike some other brands, it didn’t hurt my teeth.

One thing that surprised me about this product was it was very filling. I didn’t think this would be the case because, even though it was a larger beef stick, it was still just one. However, I had this about 3 in the afternoon and it stayed with me through the rest of my work day and even through my workout. I can’t say that about a lot of other snack items that are out there (including some that are much more expensive than this one).

As I mentioned before, this isn’t something I would normally buy and it didn’t do anything to change my mind about that. But, if you like food items like this, it is a brand I recommend looking for.
