Restaurant Review- Holiday Specials- “Everything is Special at the Cannery’s Waverly Restaurant”

I stopped at the entrance to the Waverly Restaurant and was immediately impressed by the dark wood around the wide doorway. Inside their elegant setting gave me the feeling this was going to be a meal to remember. With extra large booths, life-sized paintings across the walls and perfect lighting for atmosphere yet not too dark, I had a chance to look at the menu. What a selection! Waverly’s menu offered many original surprises that are not found anywhere else.

Even the bread was special! As Executive Chef Steve Bacchetta, in charge of all five of the West Side Cannery’s restaurants, explained, “Our trio basket of breads include White Chocolate Bread prepared with real white chocolate, a rustic almost country, almost sour dough bread and a spicy thin lavash. These complement each other because of the combination of the sweet, sour and spicy flavors.”

My strawberry spinach salad was served cold instead of hot which preserved its full crispiness and flavor. The crunchy spiced pecans and tasty fresh strawberries paired well with the baby spinach and red onions topped with a sweet poppy seed dressing. For the finale, I took my time eating the rib-eye steak enjoying every juicy bite.

Their steaks are really generous like the 18 ounce rib-eye without a bone, 22 ounce porterhouse, 16 ounce New York Steak, and big portions for most of the dishes. You can enjoy a touch of luxury without the high prices of the other expensive steak restaurants.

Chef Steve accommodates guests for their health or diet problems. “They can order the veal Oscar sauce or any of the other sauces on any dish. This is one of the things we do really well to try to accommodate guests. If somebody wants to change or tweak their order, we are more than happy to accommodate if we can.

CHRISTMAS

Chef Steve commented, “The holidays are a very special time and we do it real well at the Cannery. With five restaurants, we have all price ranges. You can choose a traditional Christmas Day meal or one of the Cannery’s famous signature dishes. Waverley’s Steak House is serving cranberry and apple stuffed center cut bone-in pork chop with cranberry apple cornbread stuffing and roasted root vegetables with port wine sauce ($26).

At Victory’s Café, many people simply just want the roast turkey, giblet gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetables to celebrate the holidays ($11.99). Baked ham is popular with yams, honey cinnamon butter and vegetables ($12.99). The roast pork loin with apple and cider gravy is served with baked green apple and pan cider gravy with vegetables and potatoes ($11.99). All entrees are served with soup or salad and a slice of pumpkin or pecan pie.

The all-you-can-eat Cannery Row buffet is scheduling a Christmas Day buffet brunch and dinner. In addition to turkey, they will have leg of lamb, carved ham, tempura shrimp, orange roughy Muenier, seafood Newburg, lemon chicken with capers, chicken and sausage Jambalaya, beef steak Forestierre, and 60 other hot items ($16.99).”
