Recap: ‘True Blood’ Season 4 Episode 8 ‘Spellbound’

“True Blood” Season 4 Episode 8 “Spellbound” consists mainly of the run-up to the second skirmish in the great vampire vs. witches war. Also, several dysfunctional relationships are explored.

Spoilers surely follow.

Jason manages to save Jessica from barbequing herself. This leads her to break up with Hoyt, much to his anger, and try to hook up with Jason the following evening. Jason is attempting to avoid another sexual entanglement that will surely lead to more trouble, not to mention more estrangement from one of his oldest friends. But pushups as a way to substitute for sex?

Marcus, the leader of the werewolf pack that Alcide and Debbie have joined, turns out to be a fairly wise leader. He is seen disciplining one of the younguns who has trouble controlling his own rambunctiousness. And he has declared neutrality in the coming vampire on witches war. He points out that the fangers can rip apart werewolves with ease, so best to avoid them.

However, Marcus is not so wise about managing his personal relationship, as exhibited by his reaction to finding his ex, Luna, keeping company with Sam. Of course there is the whole werewolf/shapeshifter rivalry going on here as well.

Meanwhile, Tommy misuses his new found skinwalker powers again. Considering it is always paid for by purging and unconsciousness, he could use it for something more effective than petty burglary.

Sookie and Eric share blood, which leads to some rather interesting hallucinations. Being snowed on while having sex on a bed in the middle of a park of some kind while not getting chilly is kind of cool, in a disconcerting way.

Lafayette is inhabited by the strange French singing spirit, who seems to be confused as to the identity of Terry and Arlene’s child. One is sad for what was done to her in life, but it looks like she is going to cause some grief anyway.

But everything leads to the parlay between Bill and Antonia, now inhabiting Marnie’s body. Bill is likely sincere in that he would like peace between the two sides. Antonia is sincere in wanting all vampires to rest in peace.

In the ensuing melee, Eric becomes Antonia’s slave, Tara is rescued from Pam by Bill, and Sookie gets shot only to be rescued by Alcide, much to Debbie’s annoyance.
