Reading and Writing: My Favorite Winter Hobbies

During the winter months, I love to read and write. When it’s below fifty degrees, and I’m home from school there’s nothing better to do than to indulge into a good read, and writing a novel or article. I wouldn’t technically call this a winter hobby because I enjoy it year-round, but the winter somehow makes it feel extra special. Sitting on the couch with a blanket, and a cup of cappuccino puts the cherry on top of reading and writing.

There are no specific books I read during the winter. I have a large library of books so whenever I finish reading a book I look at my bookshelf and pick another. Currently I’m reading Bad Things Happen by Harry Dolan. I haven’t started reading yet, but I can’t wait to dive in. For writing I’m currently working on a book called The Hollisters, which is about genies. I won’t go into anymore details than that because I’m paranoid of novel thefts online.

I also read many articles from Huffington Post, CNN, and Nytimes. I sometimes will write my opinion about a favorite article or write an original idea that popped up from an article I’ve read.

Usually during the winter months I’m inside my home with my pajama pants on, and a V-neck T-shirt to make myself comfortable. And of course I can’t forget about my cup of cappuccino sitting on the nightstand next to me. When I’m writing I’m usually sitting at a desk with my pajamas on. During the winter months I’m always online checking up on the latest news for my personal knowledge on what’s going on in this world, and knowing current topics is good conversation starters.

These winter hobbies are fun, and cost-efficient. If you have an E-Reader then you can easily download books for as low as a dollar, or if you love the feel and smell of paper then you can find many discounts by ordering novels online. If you are a type of person who loves sharing their opinion then there are many well-respected news websites such as huffingtonpost, CNN, and Nytimes that have all the current information. WordPress and Google Blogger are great sites you can start a blog for free. Write about current topics or start a personal journal for family and friends.
