Ping Pong Balls Make Scary Eyes for Halloween Props and Games

What makes a great crafting project for Halloween that almost anyone can do?

It’s making a pair of eyes that can be used as a prop or a backdrop to make the evening eerie. The easiest way to make a pair of eyes is to paint a pair of ping pong balls. A ping pong ball can be painted with markers, glue and glitter, paint or you might even glue a button on for an eye, which would give you an instant eye color.

For instance, a green button would give you a green eye or a brown button would give you a brown eye. Pens and pencils wouldn’t work too well.

For added drama and gore, you can also put fake blood on the balls. Another dramatic effect is to paint the balls completely in one color such as red and then adding the eyes. Let the paint dry before putting the eyes on. When the eyes dry they are ready.

Ping pong balls in a sense are similar to pumpkins. They can be decorated to grab attention and placed in strategic locations to frighten or bring awe to bewildered onlookers. Make more than a pair of eyes to drum up thrills.

The following are some of the ways you can use the balls.

Fill a bowl with eyes and stick fake body parts among them.

Hide trick-or-treat candy among ping pong ball eyes and let trick-or-treaters reach into them.

Fill a small portable pool with ping pong eyes and let kids play in them.

Be careful not to use decorations on the balls that could get into childrens eyes or be swallowed. You may want to set an age limit for kids who wish to enter the pool of eyes.

Eyes are fun for lottery or bingo.

Paint eyes on one side and numbers on the other.

Fill a punch bowl with eyes and punch.

If you are going to do this make sure you paint the eyes on with something edible or in which won’t hurt anyone. You may want to post a warning that the eyes aren’t edible.

Paint eyes on ping pong balls. Punch a hole in a ball and stick it on a car antenna.

Write a number for a prize on the back of a ball and float it among many eyes in a tub of water.

Party guests can draw an eye to see if they won. Write numbers on additional balls for multiple prizes.

Just for fun, “Bobbin for Apples” can be played instead with plastic balls larger than ping pongs. Plastic balls are hard to grip. Draw eyes on the balls but make sure it is done with something that won’t hurt anyone or in which can break off and be easily swallowed. You can call the game “Bobbin for Eyes.”
